Dear Parent or Guardian,

I am sending this letter home to inform you of Josh's behavior concerning speaking out of turn. During today's reading time, Josh kept whispering to his neighbor and speaking before he was called on, he was so excited and had a lot to say. The first time, I simply asked him to sit quietly until he is called on. The second time he got a warning that if he did it again he would have to sit in for five minutes from recess. I also explained to him that when he speaks out of turn he hinders the other student's ability to learn and waiting to be called on shows respect and gives others the opportunity to participate. So when he did it for the fourth time he lost some recess privilege. During the five minute period of time I had him sit quietly and think about what he did then explain to me why the choices he made weren't the best. He seemed to understand why speaking out of turn was wrong. I just wanted to let you know what exactly happened today so that we both can help Josh to learn what behavior is appropriate in the classroom. If you would further like to talk with me about Josh's situation you can contact me at (267)939-1142 or at

Sincerely,

Ms. Carr
